What is the Memorial to the War Dead and Malaria Victims?
It is tucked away behind a parking lot to the left of the Hatoma Island harbor terminal, behind the ferry pier.
The monument was erected in June 1989 to commemorate more than 100 war-related deaths, including those killed by U.S. military machine gun fire, those who died of malignant malaria, and those who died from malaria recurrence due to malnutrition.
