鳩間小学校発祥の地とは

鳩間島公民館敷地内に建立されている鳩間小学校発祥の地の碑。

鳩間小学校自体は明治時代に建てられた離島の歴史ある小学校でしたが、交通の便を含め何かと不便な離島での生活ゆえ過疎化が進み、現在では小学校と中学校が合併しています。

現校舎は海側に移転し、前の浜の隣に位置しています。

在校生の減少で廃統合の危機に面したこともあるようですが、島の方々の尽力によって離島留学などを推し進め現在に至っています。
