What is an annukar (downhole well)?
It is a short walk from the Hatoma Island Marine House guesthouse.
Although Hatoma Island's drinking water is now supplied by submarine water pumped from Iriomote Island, in the past it depended on several wells on the island.
It is said that An Nu Kah was located under a large banyan tree, and a spring was said to have sprung up in a gaping cave.
Also on the side of the road leading from the harbor to Hatoma Nakamori is Inukar (Well of the West), also a down well.
