    新盛家住宅

     

    新盛家住宅とは

    祖納集落の高台にある木造茅葺の古民家。沖縄県最古の木造民家と言われており、築140年以上と推定され、県指定の文化財にも認定されている。釘や金具を使わずくさびで止める「貫木屋（ヌキジャー）」と呼ばれる造りであり、柱や梁には西表島産の木材が用いられています。また、敷地を取り囲む石垣にはテーブルサンゴが用いられていたり、防風林として植えられているフクギの大木なども見事に残っています。

    住宅の中は見学も自由にできますが、周辺道路は狭いので、車の場合は少し離れた海沿いに車を停めて見学するのがおすすめです。
