About Taketomi Meridian Fureai Kan

It is located in Sonai village in Iriomote Island.

In 1997, a meridian line was found to run through the ancestral center at 123 degrees, 45 minutes and 6.789 seconds north latitude, and a monument was erected to commemorate the discovery.

A green laser beam is emitted from the monument every night at 19, 20, 21, and 22:00 for 30 minutes toward the meridian in the night sky.
