忘勿石之碑とは

南風見田の浜を東に歩くと「忘勿石の碑」と「忘勿石」があります。

太平洋戦争末期に波照間島の住民が強制疎開され、多くがマラリアで命を落としました。

その悲劇を忘れないために1992年に碑が建てられ、毎年慰霊祭が行われています。

忘勿石之碑周辺での遊び方

忘勿石之碑

レンタカーで行き、南風見田の浜でのシュノーケリングや海水浴などが人気です。

忘勿石之碑を見学して歴史を学んだあとにシュノーケリングをするのがいいですね。

ただし、手付かずのビーチなので、トイレ等はないのでお気をつけてください。
