由布島とは

西表島でも指折りの観光名所の『由布島』。西表島の東端にあり、上原港からは車で約40分で、上原港andOhara Portの間にある島です。

西表島から由布島へ向かう際は、15分おきに発着する水牛車に乗って島間を渡ります。

水牛車はゆっくりと進むため、南国特有のゆっくりとした時間を楽しむことができます。

移動中はが由布島の紹介や、三線で八重山民謡の弾き語りを交えながら、島へと向かいます♪

由布島は周囲2kmと小さな島なので、歩いて約30分程で一周まわれます。

また、由布島は島全体が亜熱帯植物園となっており、ブーゲンビリアなど南国に特有の植物や西表島でしか見られないような日本最大級の蝶『オオゴマダラ』などを見ることができます。

由布島での遊び方

由布島は西表島の与那良川から流出した砂が海流により運ばれて、砂などの堆積物によって形成された島です。

亜熱帯という特有の気候から、変わった動植物を観察することができます。
