Barras Island is an uninhabited island only a few dozen meters in diameter, made up of pieces of white coral reef that do not appear on any maps. Its spectacular scenery has been used in wedding movies and featured in numerous media reports.
It has been used for the filming of various TV programs and commercials, and is also a popular location for the filming of a commercial for Orion Beer, a local Okinawan beer manufacturer.

西表島の上原港から定期船で約10〜15分。島を一周歩いても1時間ほどで、Hatoma Blue."と呼ばれる吸い込まれるような青い海が最大の特徴です。
バラス島周辺はサンゴが非常に豊かで、浅瀬でもたくさんの熱帯魚やsea turtleに出会えます。ただし、潮流が速い場所もあるため、個人で泳ぐのではなくボートツアーを利用するのが最も安全です。
