Barras Island Snorkeling

The diameter of Barras Island is only a few dozen meters, at most. Over time, the shape of Barasu Island gradually changes with the tide.

The waters near Barasu Island are called "Ishinishi Jogoho," which is one of the largest and most beautiful coral reefs in Japan, and is also designated as a national park.

Yubu Island Sightseeing

Yubu Island is a remote island located about 15 minutes by buffalo car from Iriomote Island, where you can see plants and creatures unique to the subtropical zone!

The buffalo cart sightseeing tour is filled with a tropical atmosphere, with an old man playing the sanshin (Okinawan three-stringed instrument) on the way. On Yubu Island, observe bougainvillea, which is in bloom year-round, and subtropical flora and fauna.

The ferry terminal in Ishigaki Port Remote Island TerminalPier No. 3 or 4is the ferry arrival point for Yaeyama Kanko Ferry to Uehara Port in Iriomote Island.
On the day of the tour, please wait at pier No. 3 or No. 4 after seeing the sign on the information board.

Q. How long does it take from the airport to Ishigaki Port Terminal?

As a rough guide, it takes about 30 minutes by rental car or cab, and about 30-40 minutes by local bus.

Q. Are there toilets on the ship?

All of our boats are equipped with a boat service, but please make sure to do this before boarding if possible, as it can be a bumpy ride.

Q. Can I enjoy it for the first time?

Of course you can have fun. More than 95% of our guests are beginners.

Q. What should I wear?

Clothing will get wet on most tours. Although there are no specific regulations, we recommend that you wear clothing that can get wet (swimsuits, rash guards, sportswear, etc.).

Q. Can I snorkel during the winter season (December to February) in Iriomote Island? Isn't it cold?

Iriomote Island is relatively warm in winter compared to other islands in Japan, so snorkeling is possible. In addition, wetsuits are available for free rental during the winter season. If you wear a wet suit, you can enjoy snorkeling in the sea in winter.

Q. Is there a place to leave my luggage?

We can keep them in our office.

Q. Do you have any photos from the tour?

During the tour, the guide will take your pictures with a waterproof camera and give you the data for free. There is no need to bring your own precious camera to the water!

Q. Is it okay if I can't swim?

Please be assured that you will always wear a life jacket during the tour in the water. Guides will be available to assist you during the snorkeling. Please feel free to join us.

Q. What if the flight to Uehara Port in Iriomote Island is cancelled?

No change of reservation detailsPlease come to the Yaeyama Kanko Ferry Counter in Ishigaki Port Remote Island Terminal at You will receive a free round-trip bus ticket for temporary transportation from Ohara Port⇄Uehara Port.

The return trip is the reverse procedure: take a bus from Uehara Port to Ohara Port, and take a ferry from Ohara Port back to Ishigaki Island.

I was impressed by the beauty of Barras Island! It is truly mysterious that the island changes its shape with the tide. I will never forget the beauty of the coral reefs we saw while snorkeling. Yubu Island was also wonderful, and the time spent listening to the sanshin (Okinawan traditional three-stringed instrument) played by the islanders while riding in a buffalo cart was very relaxing. The snorkeling at Barras Island was fantastic! The clarity of the water was outstanding, and swimming amongst the coral and colorful fish was a dream come true. We were lucky enough to see sea turtles! After that, we went sightseeing on Yubu Island and enjoyed the tropical atmosphere as we took a leisurely buffalo car ride. The bougainvillea was beautiful and looked great in photos... The price was very reasonable including the ferry ticket! I would like to join this tour again.

I joined this tour with my family. The children were very happy and enjoyed snorkeling. The bougainvillea on Yubu Island was beautiful.
